Girona emerge as favourites to land Atlético Madrid star
Girona are closing on a loan deal for an out-of-favour member of the attacking ranks at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid. That's according to journalist Alex Luna, citing French outlet L'Equipe, who point towards Thomas Lemar as the player in question. Former Monaco man Lemar is widely expected to be on the move before the summer is out. No longer part of the plans of boss Diego Simeone following another injury-ravaged campaign in 2024/25, the Frenchman is understood to be drawing interest from a number of Spanish clubs. Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo are two such sides considering a loan swoop for Lemar with a view to next season. As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media this weekend is anything to go by, then the 29-year-old's most likely landing spot appears to be Girona. As per a report from Alex Luna: 'According to L'Equipe, Girona are the team closest to securing Thomas Lemar on loan. There is also interest from Rayo Vallecano and Celta.' Conor Laird – GSFN

Atlético Madrid close deal for 7th summer signing
The remarkable summer transfer window being enjoyed by La Liga giants Atlético Madrid has over the last 24 hours continued. This comes amid confirmation of an agreement for a fresh addition to the club's defensive ranks. The latest player primed to take his talents to Spain's capital for the season ahead? Dávid Hancko. The name of stopper Hancko had reemerged as an altogether prominent one in the media chatter surrounding Atlético across the week to date. This came after word was forthcoming that the Slovak's planned move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr had fallen through at the last minute. Long-time admirers of Hancko's talents, Atléti, in turn, repositioned themselves in the race for his services. And as alluded to above, just a day on from closing a deal for Marc Pubill, an agreement has been sewn up for Hancko, too. As per a statement across the Rojiblancos' website and social media platforms: 'Atlético de Madrid and Feyenoord have reached an agreement over the transfer of Dávid Hancko to our club, pending the completion of the medical examination and the signing of his new contract.' Atlético Madrid star agrees contract termination
A long-time member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid has reached an agreement on a contract termination with the club. That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Saúl Ñíguez as the player in question. Saúl for his part spent this past season out on loan away from Spain's capital, with Atléti's La Liga rivals, Sevilla. As much came with the 30-year-old no longer featuring in the plans of Diego Simeone and his staff. Saúl has since gone on to return to the Metropolitano, after Sevilla decided against moving forward with a permanent deal for his signature. But as alluded to above, the former Chelsea man's stay back in Madrid will not last at all long… As per a report from market insider Fabrizio Romano: 'Saúl terminates his contract at Atlético Madrid and leaves the club after 17 years. Trabzonspor will sign Saúl as verbal agreement is done.' Conor Laird – GSFN
